FRIENDS of a much-loved Redditch man who passed away last month are pulling together to help secure a bright future for his young sons.

The Lee Andrews Memorial Day will be held on August 27 at Abbeydale Community Club in memory of dad-of-two Lee, who died in July.

In addition to raffles, kids’ activities, bouncy castles, face painting and sumo wrestling, a special football match will start off the day.

Kicking off at 12.30pm on the Abbeydale Field, a match between the Abbeydale Young Guns and the Abbeydale Old Boys will get things started.

It’s then back to the club where the fun will continue with a Battle Zone wrecking ball, sumo suits for both adults and children, a golf challenge, bouncy castle, face paints and glitter tattoos, penalty shoot out, tombola, raffle and other stalls.

Later there will be pool and darts competitions and drinking games for adults, ending the day with Lee’s favourite – a big chase the ace competition.

35 year-old Lee was a regular at the club and those who knew and loved him are hoping to see a good turnout in his memory.

Organiser Billy Ferris said: “”We lost a lovable person and great friend a few weeks ago and we want to do something for his boys’ future.

“We want to raise as much money as possible for a trust fund for the lads in memory of him.”

All proceeds will be put into the trust fund for George and Freddie, aged eight and five, so they will have a lump sum when they turn 18. Billy is planning to organise an annual charity football match in Lee’s memory, with ticket money also going to the fund.

There are still places on both young and old football teams available for a £5 fee and the sign up sheet is at the club.

Donations of raffle and tombola prizes are also welcomed.
