THE Food Standards Agency has given five eateries in Redditch one star food hygiene ratings, indicating that ‘major improvements are necessary’.
Napoleon Cafe and Chims Cafe in Kingfisher Square Town Centre, Hong Kong Star on Ipsley Street, The Frontier Balti on Hewell Road and Pepinos on Unicorn Hill were all highlighted by the FSA which carries out regular inspections so customers can make informed choices on where to eat and buy food.
More than 400 restaurants in Redditch have been rated by the FSA, according to recent figures.
Inspectors judge on three major categories: Handling of food, cleanliness and what checks are in place to ensure food is safe to eat.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme rates businesses from 0 to 5.
A rating of 0 means that urgent improvement is required, while 1 indicates that major improvement is necessary.
A rating of 2 means some improvement is necessary, while 3 means hygiene standards are generally satisfactory. A rating of 4 means that standards are good, while 5 means they are very good.
