‘Redditch Rethinks Rubbish Expo’ is fast approaching

Redditch Editorial 13th Oct, 2019   0

THE ‘Redditch Rethinks Rubbish Expo’ is fast approaching on October 19 and promises to be a fantastic event for all.

It is at Redditch Town Hall and is being run by Redditch One World Link (ROWL) to highlight the stuff we throw away and the impact it has on Planet Earth.

ROWL will be using Redditch’s link with its Tanzanian twin town Mtwara to show this is not just a UK problem but a global one.

“We are very excited to be linking directly with Mtwara, where they will be speaking about the different initiatives that are taking place to reduce the impact of plastics over there,” said event organiser Mel Vaughan.

Local MP Rachel McLean and Borough Mayor Councillor Roger Bennett will be opening the Expo which runs from 10am to 4pm and is set to be a fun-filled day packed with stalls and events.

Not only that but the Tanzanian community in Birmingham have promised to put in an appearance, possibly bringing with them some traditional food.

In the main area, Dr Alan Dixon from the University of Worcester will be the keynote speaker on the threat to the environment, while the award-winning Inkberrow Design will be showcasing their recycled garments on the catwalk.

Another highlight will be Birchensale Middle School’s Choir, brass and junk bands, who will keep visitors entertained.

Plus there is also a photography competition – on a theme of recycling rubbish – which is open to everyone in Redditch.

All you have to do is take a photograph of something related to Redditch Rethinks Rubbish. To enter, email Mel at [email protected].
