A SINGER and songwriter with iconic band Dodgy, came home to Headless Cross for the sold-out first night of Redditch Revival.
The new intimate live music and comedy series is backed by headline sponsors Fly By Nite, OJW Associates and Wins Wins Wins, with a different local charity supported every month, starting with the Palace Drum Clinic.
Redditch Revival, the new monthly live music and comedy night founded by local entrepreneurs Ian Prowse and Adam Barry, launched on June 10 at Whitetail at The Hart in Headless Cross.
The launch night starred Nigel Clark, frontman of Britpop icons Dodgy, who was born and raised in the area.
Co-founder Ian Prowse said: “This one was personal.
“You don’t get much more Redditch than Nigel coming back to Headless Cross to play to 50 people on his doorstep.”
The organisers said community was built into the Revival model. Every monthly event is paired with a different local charity or community cause with fundraising on the night and ongoing coverage across Revival’s channels.
The launch night supported the Palace Drum Clinic, the Arts Council England-backed Redditch charity advancing music education across the West Midlands.
Its work ranges from workshops in local schools to bringing some of the world’s most respected drummers to the town. Donation buckets and a raffle on the night will see every penny raised go directly to the charity.
Ian added: “This is about pride as much as it is about music – Redditch has always had the people, the passion and the stories.
“It just needed someone to build the room.
“We’re building it, and with this many local businesses standing with us, it’s no longer just a music night. It’s a movement.”
