AS part of Macmillan’s biggest coffee morning last week, the Redditch Rotary Club welcomed MP Karen Lumley to their gazebo event to raise funds for the cause.
Mrs Lumley was joined by the deputy Mayor of Redditch, Councillor Jenny Wheeler and other guests to enjoy a selection of home-baked cakes and coffee in aid of the charity and the busy morning at the gazebo in Callow Hill was hailed a success by organisers.
The team of volunteers helped raise £607 for the cancer support charity by serving coffee cake and selling raffle tickets throughout the day.
To further boost the total a cheque for £1,100 from the Bramley Cottage Golf Society, which recently held a golf day at the Abbey Hotel Golf Club, was also presented to to Philip Roberts, chair of the Redditch and District branch committee of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Organiser Malcolm Jones, said:”It was a real community effort. The donations from residents were more than generous and kept us stocked with cake so that the coffee ‘morning’ lasted all day, right through until 4.30pm in the afternoon.
“I would also like to thank all our thoughtful donors for the raffle prizes gifted to us, because with 43 prizes altogether, it really helped us reach our wonderful total. We are already looking forward to hosting the event next year.”
