A GLASS was raised to eradicating polio when members of Redditch Rotary Club were treated to a presentation on a favourite tipple through the wonders of Zoom.
The talk, by Herbert Chatters, was ‘Gin Crazy’ and touched on the subject of ‘Purple Gin’ a topic close to the hearts of Rotarians.
Club spokesman Derek Dixon said: “Gin was once used as medicine, distilled with botanicals in order to make it more palatable.
“At one time a pint of gin was cheaper than a pint of ale.
“Recently there has been the development of craft gins distilled in small batches, one of these being ‘Purple Gin’.
“This was distilled exclusively for the Rotary Club of Lytham in Lancashire by Sandgrown Spirits.”
The Rotary project ‘Purple4Polio’, which aims to eradicate polio forever has been working with The Gates Foundation since 2013.
Every £1 Rotary commits to polio eradication is matched by £2 by the Gates Foundation.
Derek added: “Lytham Rotary Club worked with the distillery to create the gin ‘Passionately Purple’.
“Every bottle sold raises £6.20 for polio eradication and a further £12.40 from Gates Foundation.
“Polio is a life altering disease and those who enjoy a gin and tonic have the opportunity to help eradicate this disease.
“Additionally, there is now another gin in this family, ‘A Taste of Honey’ which is infused with Worsley Honey sales of which will also go to ending polio.
