THE ROTARY Club of Redditch has generously supported a scheme to offer ‘Bags of Kindness’ to isolated people and families, predominantly in Church Hill.
The project began at Holy Trinity Brompton in London and quickly extended to other church-led groups across the country in 2020.
The ‘#lovechristmas’ campaign was in recognition of, and a response to, people experiencing loneliness, isolation and fragility resulting from Covid.
The response from all these groups was quite simple – to make a gift of kindness, a token of recognition and of care.
Following successful campaigns in 2021 / 2002 led by St Leonard’s Church, Beoley, local partners have recognised the long shadow cast by Covid, combined with cost of living pressures, continues to contribute to the loneliness and vulnerability of many in the local community.
The partnership, this year comprising St Leonard’s Church, Moons Moat First School, YMCA and Redditch Lions Club, was actively supported by a number of people and organisations.
Among them was Age UK, Church Hill Councillor Bill Hartnett, Morrisons supermarket and Baylis and Harding.
They all reached out again to those who would appreciate the gift of a ‘Bag of Kindness’.
Additional funding has been provided by the Rotary Club of Redditch.
Employing the experience gained over the previous two years, the partnership has been busy raising funds to purchase, package and deliver gifts in the run up to Christmas.
In 2022 they were able to deliver ‘Bags of Kindness’ to 159 families and individuals and aimed to build on that success this Christmas.
