Redditch Round Table to the rescue to lend Santa a sleigh for switch-on

REDDITCH Round Table came racing to the rescue to make sure Santa Claus got to the town centre Christmas lights switch on in time last Saturday.

Father Christmas was having trouble with his sleigh and feared he might struggle to get to Redditch in the appropriate fashion.

Luckily Redditch Round Table had been busy preparing their sleigh ready for their season collections around the town and were only to happy to give Santa a lift.

Councillor David Bush, who as well as being portfolio holder for the town centre is also a member of Redditch Round Table said: “We were only too happy to help; The lights switch on is a major event in Redditch and it sets the town up for Christmas.”

It was a good job too as the crowds were out in force for the town centre Christmas lights switch on.

A top line up of guests provided bags of entertainment as families awaited the arrival of Father Christmas – who together with Borough Mayor Juliet Brunner pushed the plunger to switch on the festive lights.

The biggest crowd in years enjoyed a festive parade from the Town Hall, plus performances by Redditch Community Gospel Choir, a children’s choir, songs from Redditch’s very own top selling star Mitch Loveridge plus a full production of a ‘Very Pirate Panto’ by the town’s Pinkberry Productions.
