Redditch Royal British Legion launches sponsor a poppy campaign

Redditch Editorial 18th Oct, 2018   0

THE Royal British Legion in Redditch is appealing for volunteers to help with this year’s poppy appeal from October 27 to November 10, writes Ryan Hesketh.

Poppy Appeal organiser Gerry Marsden took over this town’s poppy appeal in 2016 and has overseen a surge in sales and this year he’s hoping to smash the 45,000 total.

At the same time the Redditch branch is also asking residents and local businesses to sponsor a poppy.

The ‘Place A Poppy Appeal’ will enable the branch to put up large poppies up around our town to honour those who have given their lives in conflict or suffered the consequences of being in battle.

Sponsorship is £10 per poppy and all money raised from both collections will go towards supporting welfare centres, recovery centres and activities to help our soldiers and former soldiers.

“This year’s Poppy Appeal is especially poignant as it marks the centenary of the end of the First World War,” said Gerry.

“However it isd important to remember that the poppy represents those who’ve been lost in all conflicts, across all continents.

“I’D also like to thank the staff and management at the Kingfisher Centre for all their help with the appeal.”

Call Gerry on 07534 024 399 if you are interested in volunteering, or for any other information.

Call the branch on 07561 068739 if you can sponsor a £10 poppy.
