Redditch runner raises £1,500 for school after London Marathon success

REDDITCH runner Connor Barker smashed the London Marathon in just over four hours, cheered on by family as he raised funds for Derwen College Charity.

Connor took on the 26.2-mile challenge in memory of his dad, Brian Hodgkinson, and to support his younger sister Amy who is a Performing Arts student at the specialist college.

He has raised more than £1,500 for the school.

He said: “A massive thank you to my partner and family for attending and supporting me every step of the way.

“Making yourself heard in such an incredible atmosphere gave me the extra push when I needed it most! It meant the world to me having them there.”

“To everyone who has donated and helped me prepare for this event – thank you.

“Your kindness has been overwhelming and has made every single mile worth it.

“The atmosphere in London was amazing from start to finish – what an experience.”

Bryony Wesson, Derwen charity fundraiser, said: “A huge thank you to Connor for all his hard work – the training, the long runs in all weathers and the incredible fundraising.

“He’s been a brilliant ambassador for Derwen Charity and the young people we support.”

Money raised for Derwen Charity helps fund additional experiences and opportunities for students and clients at Derwen College, helping them to develop independence, confidence and skills for adulthood.
