IT WAS all hands on deck at Redditch Sailing Club on Saturday when members launched the rescue boat to save a sick swan on Arrow Valley Lake.
The poorly bird had been of growing concern to volunteers from the Swan Rescue Centre at Wychbold but the canny beast had always managed to avoid capture.
However with activities on at the sailing club on Saturday morning one of its rescue boats sailed into action, successfully picking the swan and delivering it into the caring hands of the rescue centre where it is now receiving treatment.
Spokesman John Stewart said: “We’d like to thank staff from the sailing club – they have always supported us and they did so once again on Saturday. The club, along with the visitor centre, which sells books on our behalf, both help us, for which we are very grateful.”
Redditch Sailing Club runs competitive and social dinghy sailing as well as training sessions for people new to the sport. Pop down on a Sunday morning for more details.
The Arrow Valley Lake visitor centre would be grateful of more donations of books to boost funds at the Swan Centre. Just take along your donation.
