Redditch school gets in the rhythm for drumming classes

THE Forge School was reverberating to the sound of drumming last Friday when it held a major event as part of its school enrichment programme.

Funded by Worcestershire Arts Partnership, it held a who school drumming session led by Ade Powell, a tribal drummer who has been leading sessions at the Easemore Road school for the last eight weeks.

“These sessions have been really successful with one of our pupils Adam Baksza, acting as an integral part of the whole school drumming exercise,” said art teacher Sharon Sheward.

Ade worked specifically with Adam teaching him all the skills he needed and Adam in turn passed these on to the other students at the school.

“It was absolutely brilliant and the staff got involved as well and the pupils all loved it,” said Sharon.

The Forge School plays a key role in Redditch, working with students excluded from main stream education.

The drum programme was aimed at re-engaging the youngsters with learning, boosting their self esteem and confidence.
