A QUICK-thinking Redditch lad has been praised for his caring attitude toward a woman who had a fall this week.
11 year-old Ben Edwards, who lives in Woodrow, was on his way to the shops at the Winyates Centre with two of his friends on Tuesday when he noticed a lady in need of assistance.
She had taken a tumble and was bleeding from her nose, and as adults walked by, the youngster came to her aid.
After asking her if she was okay, he went into the nearby hair salon for some tissues to help mop up the blood until the woman decided to continue on her way.
However, as she left, she fell again, and Ben decided she needed more professional help.
“No one else seemed to notice her in trouble so we’d followed her to check she was all right, but she wasn’t,” said Ben.
“She fell again and was struggling to get up so I decided to call an ambulance. I also went into the community centre to ask if they had a first aider,” he said.
“I don’t know how I knew, but it felt like the right thing to do, so I called 999 and we waited with her until some grown-ups came to help. I didn’t want to leave her until I knew she was okay.”
Staff from Inspire Community Training also assisted the youngsters and the lady, who was seen by paramedics.
The Woodfield Academy pupil has been praised on social media for his actions and Ben’s nan, June Thornton added: “It’s just his nature to help. He instinctively knew what to do and we’re so so proud of him.
“It brought tears to my eyes when he told me what he’d done. I couldn’t believe it really – but we’re very proud.”
