Redditch schools urged to blast off on rocket mission

Redditch Editorial 18th Feb, 2018   0

STUDENTS at Redditch schools are being urged to reach for the stars and compete in the UK’s largest youth rocket competition.

It is aimed at those aged 11 to 18 and is free to enter. The contest challenges entrants to design, build and launch a model rocket which has two uncooked eggs as passengers which have to remain intact throughout the voyage and the landing.

The rocket must reach 800ft with a specific target flight duration of between 41 and 43 seconds.

Designed to encourage team-work, creativity and innovation, UKRoC enables young people to gain practical insight into how science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects are used by the aerospace defence and space industries.

The winners will go forward to take on the USA, France and Japan in an international fly-off.

The closing date is February 28. Visit www.ukayroc.org.uk/why-enter/ for more information.
