Redditch Sheds back tore-open with new premises at Kingfisher

REDDITCH Community Sheds is set to re-open – in The Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

After closing due to the pandemic, local charity Redditch Community Sheds is set to open once again at Unit 7, George Walk, in the Kingfisher on Tuesday, March 29.

Initially the Shed will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 1pm.

The new unit will provide the Shed with a front of house space for selling handmade items, a meeting/relaxing space for members, and a rear workspace for crafting and making items for sale.

“Our new location in a large shopping centre will make us more visible and accessible to a much larger group and for the Shed to be able to provide a much larger range of activities,” said Sheds chair Dean Bruton.

The Shed will build on the brilliant work done by the late Roly Duke and further expands the role of the Shed in combating isolation and loneliness among both men and women.

This will be done through shared practical activities such as woodworking and crafting, by providing a welcoming atmosphere and a sense of worth to mainly retired -but not limited to – individuals.

“The Shed activities provide the opportunity for individuals to get together, in a safe space, to open up and share their problems, troubles, and issues,” said Dean.

“We have members from Redditch, Bromsgrove, Alvechurch, and surrounding areas and while we are associated with the Men in Sheds movement, we are gender neutral and have both male and female members.

“In addition, we undertake regular community projects.

“We would also like to thank Ken Williams, the Kingfisher Centre manager, for reaching out to us and providing help and support in reaching this point.

“In addition, we would like to thank the Sandycroft Centre for providing us with a temporary home for the last 18 months.”
