SHOPPERS at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Redditch were disrupted on Monday when a fire alarm evacuation took place.
At around 2.45pm on Monday (January 9) the alarm was set off and customers were evacuated in line with procedure.
However, one lady, who was on an escalator near Farm Foods at the time, took a tumble when the escalator came to an abrupt halt.
Shoppers reported that a quick-thinking nearby security guard rushed to her aid and made sure she got the right medical assistance.
A spokesperson for the shopping centre said her injuries were not serious: “Kingfisher Shopping Centre can confirm the fire alarm at the centre was activated in the Hub area on Monday.
“The centre as a whole was not fully evacuated, but customers in the specific area where the alarm was activated were evacuated for approximately 15 minutes.
“As is standard procedure when there is an evacuation, the escalators came to a stop. The lady tumbled as the escalator stopped and security officers quickly came to her aid, administering first aid and ensuring she was ok before she went on her way. We can confirm the lady is fine.”
