A REDDITCH short film premiered last week to rave reviews.

Made in and around Redditch, English Rose tells the story of a lone soldier at the end of the Second World War.

It was written by Redditch born George S Evans who was inspired by many World War films of the past including Dunkirk, All Quiet on the Western Front and 1917.

After four months of scriptwriting, he finally had a completed script and began pre-production.

Top Box Studios, located in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, was used as the unit base for production where the table read took place.

Here George and his producer Tracy Anne Wright from Top Box Studios met with the cast for the short.

Consisting of actors from Nottingham and Leicestershire, it was Tom Bowes from Redditch who took on the lead role of ‘William’.

In total, the crew devoted a tight deadline of three days to complete shooting and included Forge Mill Needle Museum.

Top Box Studios held a Night at the Movies showcase at The Grieg Hall in Alcester and the film was met with rave reviews.

George said: “Over 60 audience members each purchased tickets to see our film collectively in true movie going fashion.

“The positive feedback came flooding out the doors and since then the film has received reviews from movie critics online.

“Gaining two four star and one five star review, critics labelled English Rose immersive and heart-warming, much to the delight our cast and crew.

“It has been selected into the Stratford Upon Avon film festival due to take place on November 4, and has been entered into many more.”
