Redditch students living life in the fast lane

ENERGETIC students from a Redditch school have ditched life in the slow lane in favour of fitness and health.

Pupils from Tudor Grange Academy Redditch have been taking part in the Couch to 5K scheme this term, learning about how best to lead an active lifestyle, promote fitness and beat obesity.

The youngsters, who had previously done very little physical activity, finished the eight week challenge together and succeeded in completing a 5K run.

Andy Burgess, Maths teacher at Tudor Grange, came up with the idea and said “I thought it would be a really good idea to get some of the students and staff to take part in something together.

“It has been a great success and I am so proud of everyone for completing the 5K.”

The fastest time was achieved by Harley Penn, in just 23 minutes 49 seconds, but all students who took part were given Couch to 5K t shirts and certificates for completing the course.

Jodie Bolter, Principal at the school said “We are immensely proud of our students and their success.

“For some of them running 5K was a real achievement and both students and staff showed pure determination to finish and they have even vowed to continue to run.

“We are looking forward to welcoming more students and staff to take part in our next session and perhaps even encourage some parents to join us.”
