Redditch students on crest of a wave at launch of very own radio station

STUDENTS at Tudor Grange Academy will be making their voices heard after going live on their very own brand new radio station.

Four year 10 students were joined by school staff, Coun Emma Marshall and Redditch Mayor Coun Ann Isherwood at the ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday.

After school governors learned of the student’s eagerness to hit the airwaves on their own radio station, they spoke to Coun Marshall at the beginning of the school year who used her county councillor divisional fund to pay for it.

The new radio studio contains all professional equipment with the students initially using it to create one podcast per week.

The youngster’s new podcast will feature interviews and student’s views as well as local, national and international current affairs.

And students will also be giving their own views on ways to solve issues such as littering.

After the year 10 groups get used to the station, Tudor Grange will look to have a presenter team from each year group.

This will all lead up to Tudor Grange radio going live on the airwaves.

Coun Marshall said: “I think this radio station is really important as it will allow the students to figure out how to speak in public, contain their nerves and be able to get their point across.

“These skills are important for future leaders, which hopefully these bright students might be.”

Coun Isherwood added she felt it was great to see young people using their initiative to expand their skills and help make Redditch great.
