PUPILS at Woodrush High School stepped back 100 years when they built a mock First World War trench and bunker leading to a small memorial garden.

The teenagers, under the leadership of head of humanities Andy Reece, carried out the project to commemorate the men from Wythall who fought and died in the Great War.

They then decorated the garden with metal poppies, one for each of the local soldiers who died.

The garden will be officially opened on Friday (November 11) with a local veteran, serving soldiers, staff, governors and pupils who built the memorial in attendance.
