Redditch Swimming Club bids for cash share out from builder

REDDITCH Swimming Club is one of three organisations shortlisted in a £100,000 competition for groups supporting young people.

Backed by UK-wide housebuilder Persimmon Homes, the trio have been chosen by Persimmon Homes South Midlands to represent the region in the firm’s Building Futures scheme, which will give away £1 million nationally this year to projects that benefit under-18s.

The groups have been selected from three categories targeting grassroots sports groups, health organisations and arts & education projects.

New College Worcester will represent the arts and education category at the national final, Redditch Swimming Club has been selected to represent sport and Dogs For Good will represent health.

Russell Griffin, managing director of Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “Building Futures aims to create a lasting legacy for young people and the groups that support them.

“We have been overwhelmed by the response and it is clear there are a lot of very worthy causes supporting the younger generation.”

New College Worcester is a national, residential special school for young people aged from 11 who are blind or vision impaired, Redditch Swimming Club wants to invest in a range of training equipment and Dogs For Good plans to train more assistance dogs to help children with autism.

Online voting opened this week and runs until September 18.
