A REDDITCH teenager whose mum died suddenly on December 15 is hoping the town’s community will help her raise funds to pay for her mother’s funeral and other legal costs.
Emma Jones unexpectedly passed away at the age of 42 and the fundraising drive was started by Charleigh.
The cause of death at the time was unknown until it was discovered she had pneumonia but with no symptoms showing.
Charleigh said: “I am telling this story to raise awareness of how sudden life can be taken from you and to also raise money to give my mom the send off she deserves.”
She added, with the festive season and a cost-of-living crisis, she realised it was not the best time for many but added anything anyone could provide would be welcome.
“I am 16 and my stepfather and mother were not married or in a civil relationship and we, therefore, are unable to claim the government grant.
“Unfortunately my mum only being 42 and reasonably healthy, didn’t have any life insurance or a will.
“This money will also be used for me and my stepfather to help get parental responsibility for myself and help us live until all paperwork and court is sorted.
“As much or as little as you can afford will be much appreciated, thank you for listening to my story and hope you can help and understand.”
The funeral is scheduled to take place on January 10 and the fundraising page has a target of £6,500. It currently has £1,300 pledged.
