Redditch Tennis Club members have great week in the County Championships

REDDITCH Tennis Club members had a great week at the CFS Herefordshire and Worcestershire County Championships held in Malvern.

There were 24 RTC members competing in the event and four taking to the court in the Warwickshire County Championships at Sutton Coldfield.

Holly Ashford competed in the Warwickshire County Championships.

She claimed titles in 18u Girls Doubles and 16u Girls Doubles and was runner-up in the 16u Girls Singles and 18u Girls Singles.

The 18u Girls County Team won the H&W Team of the Year. Captained by Tony Ravenscroft, the team included Redditch players Kiyyah Grant, Latesha Grant and Paulina Jurkowska. Players from other clubs were Josie Ward, Sally Lewin, Caoimhe Guppy, Beth Pye and Georgia Marrett.

One club winning 13 county titles and being runners-up in 10 events was a fantastic achievement.

RTC head coach Tony Ravenscroft said “It’s been a strange 18 months, the players have adapted and learnt a lot in and out of lockdowns.

“A credit to all the players for their resilience and hard work over the last 18 months.”
