A BREAKFAST briefing on the business opportunities presented by the HS2 rail development is to be held in Redditch.
The event will be organised by North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration (NWedR), a shared service run in conjunction with the area’s three local authorities.
Dean Piper, head of NWedR said: “HS2 is the largest rail construction project for generations.
“We are hosting events across North Worcestershire to actively encourage local businesses of all sizes to be aware of the chance to compete for the many contract opportunities that are being offered through the construction phase and beyond.
“Even though HS2 is not due to open until 2026, the procurement process is well underway and we don’t want local businesses to miss out.”
More than 40 business leaders from across the area attended a similar breakfast briefing held recently in Kidderminster.
Craig Wakeman, HS2 Programme strategy manager at West Midlands Combined Authority said: “The business opportunities for local companies stretch beyond just the construction of a railway.
“The wider elements of the programme will make a huge impact on the regional supply chains.
“As regional agencies, we must look to support key sectors to help them engage with the joint venture companies that will be delivering the construction of HS2 and their supply chains.
“We must also ensure we put in place the necessary skills and address areas of shortage so we can create sustainable economic growth for future generations on the back of the HS2 programme.”
