Redditch to receive £200,000 cash boost through its One Public Estate arm

REDDITCH is to receive more than £200,000 of Government money through its One Public Estate arm.

The cash, said Council Leader Matt Dormer will help pave the way to ‘reforge’ the town, including the re-vamp of Matchborough and Winyates district centres – plus the construction of more than 400 new homes there – the creation of a services hub in the town centre and a major redevelopment for the railway station.

“Everything we applied for we have got, so we’re really pleased,” said Coun Dormer (Con, West).

“This money enables us to get the right people on board to do a proper job with planning and consultation – it means we can get things started.

“Town centres are increasingly becoming more about lifestyle and leisure and less about shopping for things that people tend to get online instead these days.

“We need to reconfigure our town centre to adapt to this massive change, and this money is just the start of this process.

“But what excites me most about this money is how we can use it to fully engage the public in where Redditch goes next,” he added.

“People should be excited too as it will enable the council and our partners to do all the necessary planning and consultation work so that we can reforge a direction for Redditch town centre that allows us to move into the future and unlocks our full potential.”

He added plans were already ‘moving on apace’ with a lot of interest being shown already in the projects.
