Redditch to receive visitors from a galaxy far, far away as Star Wars celebration event returns

THE FORCE will be back in Redditch as the Star Wars-themed Echo Base Live will be coming to the Kingfisher on Saturday, February 4.

Echo Base Live is Europe’s biggest Star Wars collector’s event and will feature several actors that featured in the iconic Sci-Fi saga to sign autographs for fees.

Among them is Kenneth Colley, who played Admiral Piett in the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, as well as Spencer Wilding, who was in the Darth Vader suit to perform the famous hallway action scene at the end of Rogue One.

Guy Henry, who provided the physical and vocal performance for Grand Moff Tarkin to enable CGI effects to recreate the likeness of the late Peter Cushing, will also be joining the force-filled fun.

At the last Echo base event in October, more than 180 tables of toys and collectables offered everything from lightsabers to action figures and a huge charity raffle raised £2,448 for Hull and East Yorkshire Children’s University to continue helping young people in deprived areas.

Since the Echo Base collecting group first introduced fund-raising in 2015 it has generated over £100,000 for good causes with a member of the admin team choosing a charity important to them each year.

And this time round the cash raised will be going to Lichfield charity Friends 2 Friends, which supports adults with learning disabilities, other vulnerable adults and their carers.
