REDDITCH town centre is set for a £500,000 facelift to make it more attractive for businesses, residents and visitors.
The town is one of only four in Worcestershire to benefit from the County Council’s £2million pot of cash for town centre improvements.
The investment was announced as part of the county’s 2016/17 budget update in which the Conservative leadership confirmed they have plugged a £11 million funding gap created by the greater than expected cut in revenue support grant from the Government.
Redditch’s roads could also be improved as £12 million of investment is planned across the county.
However, residents can still expect their council tax bills to go up this year by four per cent, a £42.54 rise added to the average Band D bill.
And councillors heard that the next four years will be difficult for the county with savings of £20 million still needing to be found for 2017 and £25 million on average every year after that up until 2020.
Coun John Smith, cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “As part of Worcestershire County Council’s investment in public spaces, £500,000 will be invested in Redditch town centre. This investment will help to provide an excellent infrastructure for businesses and visitors, and the best possible environment for people who work and live in Redditch.”
The proposals are likely to be rubber stamped at a full council meeting later this month.
