Redditch town troops join in the march to save NHS

CAMPAIGNERS from Redditch joined more than 250,000 other protesters in a March to save the NHS last Saturday.

Among them were the leader of Redditch borough council Councillor Bill Hartnett and Neal Stote, the former chairman of the now disbanded Save the Alex campaign.

Mr Stote said: “For a single issue march it really showed the strength of feeling across the country. For me, to have four coaches travelling down from Worcestershire shows that (Health Secretary) Jeremy Hunt’s comment that Worcester was his number one concern seems to have really struck a chord with people across the county.”

Coun Hartnett added: “There was a real carnival atmosphere on the streets but make no mistake people understood this was a very serious issue.

“I spoke to many from across Worcestershire and from around the UK who were telling about experiences of an underfunded NHS and fears for the future funding of our NHS but full of praise for the doctors and nurses. I just hope the Government takes notice of the march and the message it carried.”
