THE Redditch Toy Bus is taking to the road in a bid to spread a little joy for hard up families this Christmas.
The bus will be calling at district centres across the town to boost the drive for donations of new toys that can be given to needy local children this Christmas.
The initiative is part of a major appeal launched by St Stephen’s Church and local charity Acts of Kindness to bring some festive joy and presents to local children who might otherwise have nothing to open on Christmas Day.
As well as the bus touring the town, from this Saturday, November 27, they are appealing for new toys to be donated at a series of drop off points around Redditch so they can be wrapped up and distributed to needy children.
Kind hearted people can drop off their gifts at the Kingfisher guest services unit just inside the centre off Evesham Walk, under the 8ft Christmas tree in the foyer at St Stephen’s Church and, from Monday to Friday, at the offices of the Redditch Standard in Church Green East.
“The aim is to try and make sure that children who might not necessarily have a present this Christmas has sdomething to open in December 25,” said St Stephen’s church warden Elaine Whitfield.
People unable to get into the town centre or to meet up with the toy bus can still make a donation by calling 07484 641016 or email [email protected].
And Elaine stressed the toys need to be new: “We are determined to make this happen – St Stephen’s is at the hub of the town and we want to be absolutely in the thick of it,” she said.
The bus will be at the following places from 10am to 12 midday: in Church Hill Centre on Monday, November 29, by the shops by Batchley Pool on Wednesday, December 1, Winyates Centre on Friday, December 3, Woodrow Centre on Monday, December 6, and at St Philips Church, Webheath on Thursday, December 9.
