Redditch uniform bank success

Redditch Editorial 24th Aug, 2022   0

REDDITCH uniform bank was back at the Kingfisher Centre last weekend, and helped over 500 families.

The event is organised by Redditch Labour Party and appeals to the community to donate school uniform.

Coun Sharon Harvey said: “Once again the Uniform Bank has been a massive success – there is huge demand for this event, and people are incredibly grateful. This saves people money, and also saves a huge amount of clothing from landfill.

“People always ask what we do with the leftovers – this year we will redistribute most of it around local charity shops, and send some to textile recycling.”

“Coun Joe Baker, who had the idea for the first Redditch Uniform Bank back in 2012 said: “This event happens because we have a fantastic team of people – including every one of our Redditch Labour Councillors – who work incredibly hard to collect, sort and organise donated items.

“The Kingfisher Centre have been a fantastic support by being a donation point and providing a brilliant venue. We must also thank Willow Trees Community Centre in Church Hill and The Barn at Winyates for collecting donations for us.”
