Redditch urged to get creative for Queens Baton Relay

RESIDENTS are being encouraged to get creative to celebrate the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay.

The baton will be running into the town on July 23 and Redditch Borough Council has partnered with Positivity Rocks to encourage communities to create art on the theme of celebration, community, and the Commonwealth games.

People can choose which art form they’d like to exhibit which can range from paintings to poetry and music.

People will be asked to share their art in and outside their homes, in their local community or on social media.

Those attending the Queens Baton Relay event at either Redditch Skate Park or Arrow Valley Countryside Park are being asked to dress in their chosen Commonwealth colours and bring flags along.

The relay events will start at 8am on July 23 and small celebrations will be held on the day.

Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Cultural Services, Coun Joanne Beecham, said: “The Queen’s Baton Relay is about so much more than just sports.

“This once-in-a-lifetime experience celebrates the communities, people, cultures, and places in the Commonwealth, so it is very poignant that we are encouraging people to celebrate through their own cultures, creativeness, and community projects.

“Even more so, that one of our baton bearers is our very own Lauren Mernagh, the founder of Positivity Rocks in Redditch.”
