Redditch van raiders may be using electronic key

THIEVES could be using an electronic key fob to open works vans after three thefts in the Studley and Alcester area last week.

At around 3am last Friday morning (December 16) the thieves, believed to be three men described as Asian, arrived in a taxi in Knottesford Close, Studley.

They then electronically opened a Ford Transit van and stole a disc cutter valued at £750 before moving around the corner to Warwick Close where they again opened a Transit and stole a second disc cutter, this one valued at £700.

That same night, in Greville Road, Alcester, a Renault Trafic works van was broken into and approximately £800 in tools stolen.

In all three cases there was no sign of a break in.

It is believed the tools arethen channeled to Eastern Europe for re-sale.

The thefts come just weeks after motorway police warned drivers to physically check their cars were locked when leaving them at service stations.

It came after a spate of car break ins at motorway services on the M4 with no obvious signs of damage to the vehicles.

Thieves have been targeting works vans and police are urging owners to not leave any valuables in the vehicles overnight.

Anyone with any information on these latest thefts should contact police on 101.
