A DEDICATED conservation group which has been improving wildlife habitats across Redditch throughout the winter has been recognised by the borough council.
The Midweek Conservation Volunteer Group, led by Pete Burton, was celebrated this week for its valuable contribution to the town’s green spaces.
Over the past months, the group has been focusing on hedge-laying at Proctors Barn Wildflower Meadows in Arrow Valley Country Park.
This specific technique not only restores the structure and health of hedgerows, but also boosts biodiversity by providing vital habitats for birds, insects, and small mammals.
Portfolio holder for biodiversity, Coun Jen Snape, said: “The Midweek Conversation Volunteering Group are integral to the upkeep of Redditch’s green spaces.
“Their ongoing contribution plays a vital role in protecting local biodiversity and supporting the long‑term health of Redditch’s parks and natural habitats.”
The Midweek Volunteers work with the council all year round, and have done for over 25 years. They deliver a wide range of essential conservation tasks, such as pruning and upkeep of community orchards, along with wildflower maintenance.
