Redditch volunteers get set to help others in the community

A GROUP of Redditch volunteers are preparing to help parents in need of support across the borough.

On Monday, five participants were presented with certificates by Portfolio Holder Coun Joe Baker after completing a peer support and volunteer induction course with the council’s Parenting and Family Support Service.

The volunteers completed the seven week programme to enable them to start their volunteering journey with the Parenting and Family Support Service.

During the course, they covered a wide range of subjects including communications skills, body language, confidentiality, assertiveness, learning styles and understanding our community.

Going forward the participants will now take on placements, volunteering alongside qualified practitioners from the service who deliver a range of courses to parents across Redditch and Bromsgrove.

Coun Joe Baker, whose portfolio covers young people and community centres, said: “I was very pleased to present these certificates to such an enthusiastic group of people because volunteers are so important in assisting our services.

“It was clear that they have really enjoyed learning on this course and it will stand them in good stead for when they commence their placements. I would like to wish all of them the very best of luck.”
