Redditch youngster is taking steps to bring in the cash

A SUPER fit Redditch youngster is celebrating after raising £256 by completing a 10k run – at the age of just nine.

Jaidee Laurence-Brown took part in the Stroke Association’s ‘Resolution Run’ around Arrow Valley Park last Sunday (March 12) after being touched by the plight of dad Adam’s uncle, who suffered a stroke a few years ago.

“My uncle’s now severely handicapped and the two of us go and see him every week and help him out which made Jaidee decide to do this run,” said cabinet maker Adam, a dedicated charity fund raiser himself.

The two prepared for the event by doing six weeks of training runs, covering three to four miles at a time two or three times a week, with the full approval of mum Lisa.

“She is over the moon with what he’s done and in the end he didn’t even break sweat, bless him, but he loves football and is pretty fit anyway,” said Adam, who ran alongside him.

The Lakeside couple now hope that Jaidee’s efforts will inspire him to do more charity fund raising to help others less fortunate than himself.

In all nearly 300 people from across the county took part in the Resolution Run raising more than £8,000 for the Stroke Association.

The event saw a sea of purple fund raisers tackling a 5k, 10k or 15k course, all while helping to conquer stroke.

The charity’s community and events fund raiser Claire Benfield said: “With around 1.2 million people across the UK living with the devastating impact of stroke, it is vital that we have people like our Resolution Runners to raise funds and help us conquer stroke.”

Redditch Rotarians provided the marshals and gw4x4r.co.uk volunteers while Pure Gym Redditch did the warm.
