A SCHOOL-GIRL from Redditch was invited to Downing Street for the Christmas Tree light switch on.

Esmee Allured, aged eight, was invited by Rishi Sunak to watch the lighting of the Christmas Tree, and have a private gathering afterwards in Number 10.

Esmee is no stranger to Westminster, having received a Points of Light Award from former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

She was recognised after collecting hundreds of toys to give out to local children who might otherwise not have had presents at Christmas.

During the event attendees enjoyed a rendition of Silent Night outside Number 10 sung by the Millbank Academy Year 3 student choir and music from the Ensemble of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force.

Guests were then invited to a reception inside Number 10 to enjoy a hot chocolate, together with mince pies and gingerbread.

Esmee’s mum, Amy Killick said Esmee was excited at the chance to visit Number 10.

She said: “It was amazing.

“We got to park right outside Downing Street and had to go through all the police checks.

“We had hot chocolate and then the Prime Minister gave a speech.

“When we went inside Downing Street we had the chance to speak to Mr Sunak and his wife.”

Esmee is the first recipient from Redditch to be awarded one of the Prime Minister’s Points of Light award, making the visit to Downing Street special.

Amy added: “I am so immensely proud of my daughter Esmee. She has faced so many of her own battles during her life including multiple operations and hospital admissions.

“Despite this she has gone above and beyond to think of others in a less fortunate situation than her. She makes me proud every single day.”
