Redditch youth group is passing on baton

Redditch Editorial 14th Sep, 2022   0

A REDDITCH youth group is closing after 20 years of supporting young people in the borough.

What’s Your Point? Youth and community group decided to pass the baton onto others to continue the vital work of support in Woodrow and the surrounding areas.

Some current staff members will remain working from the building when Your Ideas starts its delivery in mid-September, while Maureen Hayden (CEO) will take on specialised work with the organisation, and Rich Lewis (lead youth worker) will step away after 10 years to concentrate on his day job with Redditch Nightstop.

The team celebrated the end of an era last Wednesday (August 31) with former members, their families and professionals, to reminisce and look back at projects they had ran.

Maureen said: “It has been a brilliant experience working with the young people and their families in Woodrow and the local area.

“There are lots of great memories from the underpass art projects, community days, family learning to trips out.

“Personally, I feel I have been pushed by the young people supported and have undertaken activities I never thought I would.

“I wish to thank the families, young people, professionals, partner organisations, fellow directors, staff and volunteers who have supported us so well over the last 20 years.”

Rich added: “Having been a part of What’s Your Point? for 10 years I can say it’s been a truly brilliant and humbling experience.

“Watching young people grow and develop has been a privilege, and I will really miss the role.

“I am most proud of the ever-changing groups we have worked with, especially the specialist groups and partnership working.

“I wish Your Ideas every success with their project in Woodrow moving forward, and want all current and former staff and volunteers to know how amazing their contributions have been to giving the best service possible to our young people.”
