A DROP-IN advice event for keeping warm and saving money returns to Redditch in the New Year, and this time is being set up at the Alexandra Hospital.

Redditch Borough Council is once again bringing partners together to offer heating and energy advice that can help people to keep warm, keep safe and stay well this winter.

Act on Energy will be on hand for advice on energy bills, how to access loft and cavity insulation grant funding, and replacing old, inefficient boilers. Age UK will cover home energy checks and other advice, and NEW Lifeline will represent the community alarm service that provides peace of mind to vulnerable people and their families.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire and Rescue Service will be in attendance for home fire safety advice and Care and Repair Worcestershire will be also be there for advice on how to get help with essential home repairs.

Redditch Borough Council’s Sports Development Team will also be there to offer residents advice on improving mobility, strength and balance.

Councillor Mark Shurmer, whose portfolio covers Housing, said: “By January we are in the midst of the cold winter weather and the Warmer Winter programme not only encourages people to keep warm and safe, it can also mean significant savings for some people. I think it is fantastic that we are able to run the next event at the hospital to reach more of our residents.

“Thank you to the Alexandra Hospital staff and Friends of the Alexandra Hospital for helping with organising the event.”

Chief nurse Vicky Morris said: “Campaigns like this one are very important because they help to reduce the impact of winter illness in residents and that in turn has an impact on health services like A & E.

“We are glad to be involved with the campaign and hope that by hosting it at the Alex we can help some of our more vulnerable residents who could be at risk of suffering during the winter months. Lots of advice on staying well this winter can also be accessed at www.nhs.uk/staywell.”

The event is on Thursday, January 11 from 9.30am to 1pm and will be located at the Friends of the Alexandra Hospital Café area.

If you want help at the event to switch energy suppliers and save money, please make sure to bring along an energy bill along.
