BROTHERS at risk of dementia have won a JustGiving Award after raising nearly £300k for research – with sights set on an Irish challenge next year.
The pair from Redditch, who are at risk of developing dementia in their 40s, have been named as winners in the Mind Over Miles category for this year’s JustGiving Awards after raising almost £300,000 to help fund vital research into the disease.
Jordan Adams, 30, and his brother Cian, 24 – known as The FTD Brothers – have taken on a series of challenges in a bid to raise £1million for vital research into early-onset frontotemporal dementia (FTD), the disease that claimed their mum Geraldine’s life at just 52.
The pair have covered thousands of miles in their fundraising journey so far, taking on tasks such as running the entire length of the UK, running seven marathons in seven days and completing 982 laps of their local athletic track to honour the 982,000 people living with dementia in the UK.
Their next challenge will see them heading to Ireland, where they will run 32 consecutive marathons across all 32 of Ireland’s counties, beginning on April 27, 2026.
The challenge is particularly meaningful, as their late mother was extremely proud of her Irish roots, and the family has sadly lost 13 Irish relatives to the disease.
By taking on this enormous feat, the brothers hope to honour Geraldine’s memory and raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK, bringing them closer to their mission of raising £1million to help find a cure.
The brothers have documented their fundraising journey on social media, attracting a following of 400,000 across Instagram and TikTok.
Jordan said: “To be named as a finalist at this year’s awards was amazing in itself – to be named a winner is out of this world.
“Following my diagnosis in 2018 and Cian learning the same fate in 2023, we’ve been on a mission to raise awareness and funds of FTD.
“We have our sights set on raising £1million in total and hope this award helps fuel us on this journey.”
The Mind Over Miles category recognises people who have gone the distance to support the causes that mean most to them.
The brothers were shortlisted alongside four other finalists and were chosen as the overall winners after a public vote.
Pascale Harvie, JustGiving president and general manager, said: “Over the past 25 years, more than £7billion has been raised for good causes by millions of incredible fundraisers on JustGiving.
“The awards are our way of shining a light on those remarkable individuals whose courage, compassion and commitment inspire us all.
“After whittling thousands of nominees down to just 20 finalists, the final decision was left to the public.
“Jordan and Cian’s courageous mission to honour their mother’s memory and share their own story of living with the FTD gene, has touched and inspired people across the country.
“We wish them the very best in meeting their fundraising target and will continue to cheer them on in every challenge they take on.”
As they prepare for their Ireland marathon challenge, The FTD Brothers continue to champion awareness, hope and the urgent need for dementia research, determined to make every mile count for a cure.
