A REDDITCH man who braved the shave in memory of his young cousin has raised more than £3,000.
Mike Smith, who’s young cousin Jake died from SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy) at the age of just four, decided to lose his locks to raise money for a memorial project.
As part of a wider fund-raising endeavour by Jake’s family to raise enough cash to create a special tree house in his memory at the front of his school in Strensall, Yorkshire, the £3,165 raised by Mike will go towards helping them reach their goal.
Builder Mike had the chop last weekend, and thanks to the support of local businesses including Thomas Brothers, Jewsons Redditch, Alan’s Caravans, Windows R Us and Buildland he was able to raise the large sum of cash.
He added: “I’ve had a few funny looks since I had my hair cut, but the money we’ve raised makes it all worth while.”
Any money left over after the tree-house is built will be split equally between to Dravet Syndrome UK and York Inspirational Kids charity.
