LOCAL lass Sophie Williams has won through to the semi-finals of Miss England – and been crowned Miss Redditch into the bargain.
Sophie thought she’d messed up her Zoom interview with the judges and was stunned when they gave her the news.
“All those who had got through were told in the morning but we couldn’t say anything until the organisers announced it,” said the 22-year-old.
“That was really difficult, I just wanted to run around and tell my mum and dad and all my friends.”
She also says she owes a debt to all those who voted for her in the public poll highlighted by the Standard.
And in these lockdown times singleton Sophie, who lives in Greenlands, celebrated her success on her own with a takeaway chicken korma from Essence of Bengal.
This year’s competition has put an emphasis on campaigning against domestic abuse and single use plastic.
“All my questions were on raising awareness against single use plastic,” said Sophie.
“I just started talking and stuff came out, I was thinking there’s no way I’m going through.
“When they gave me the news I was stunned but they said I was through and they would make me Miss Redditch,” added the a sales administrator with Proteus Switchgear,
Sophie is collecting unused cosmetics and toiletries for a women’s refuge for domestic abuse victims.
