FUNDING has been earmarked for a Redditch school to repair and modernise the building.
Trinity High School and Sixth Form Centre is one of more than 650 across the country benefiting from the £470million Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), part of a wider £1.2billion national package to fix crumbling hospitals and schools.
The West Midlands will receive up to £35.4million, with funding going directly to schools in need of urgent repairs.
Work will include fixing leaking roofs, replacing dangerous asbestos and upgrading heating and ventilation systems.
The works at Trinity High School are expected to begin this summer and continue into the 2025/26 financial year, ensuring that students in Redditch benefit from modernised facilities as soon as possible.
Redditch MP Chris Bloore (pictured) welcomed the announcement and said: “Parents in Redditch will remember the chaos and anxiety caused by the RAAC crisis and the fear that their children were no longer safe in their own schools due to years of Conservative neglect.
“Trinity High School and Sixth Form Centre is a vital part of our community and I’m proud to back this funding to make it safer, warmer and fit for the future.
“With free breakfast clubs, lower uniform costs and safe, modern classrooms, Labour is giving children the best possible start in life.”
This announcement forms part of a record £2.1billion investment in the school estate this year – including an additional £1.4billion to accelerate Labour’s School Rebuilding Programme, which will see 100 rebuilding projects start across England.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson added: “The defining image of the school estate under the previous government was children sitting under steel props to stop crumbling concrete from falling on their heads. That simply isn’t good enough.
“Parents expect their children to learn in a safe, warm environment. It’s what children deserve – and it’s what we are delivering.
“This investment is about more than just buildings – it’s about showing children that their education matters, their futures matter and this Labour government is determined to give them the best possible start in life.”
