REDDITCH is just about on a par on a league table of social mobility by local authorities.
The table, published by the Government puts Bromsgrove at the top of the league for the West Midlands and Wychavon at the bottom with Redditch in the middle.
The report says the region’s strengths include comparatively strong GCSE scores and high levels of university entry for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Redditch is known for having excellent schools.
However it does say the region is the only one in the country with rising unemployment, particularly in Birmingham.
Neighbouring Stratford district performed marginally better than Redditch borough.
