RESIDENTS can rediscover old Redditch with a remarkable, recently uncovered documentary showing life in the town in 1957.
The full-colour footage was discovered through work cataloguing artefacts in Redditch Library, and the Local History Museum was tasked with helping to trace the film’s past.
The museum arranged for the film to be digitised from its original 16mm format so it could access the contents more easily and this revealed it to have links with the early town-twinning with Auxerre.
Historians do not know when the documentary was last seen but they now believe the film was shown to people living in Auxerre after first being filmed to show them what life was like in Redditch.
The 50-minute-long film will be free to watch at a special event at Redditch Library at 5.30pm on Tuesday, January 31.
Additional screenings of the film may be shown depending on the demand.
