SATURDAY’S local derby between Bromsgrove Sporting and Redditch United has been postponed, writes Ben Tyler.
The decision, made this afternoon, Friday, March 13, means that the two Southern League Premier Central clubs will now have to fulfil the fixture at a later date in light of the current coronavirus outbreak.
While the top three tiers of the non-league pyramid – the National League (step one) and the National League North and South (both step two) – are set to go ahead as usual, all games in the Southern League (step three) have been postponed until Sunday March 22.
It brings disappointment to both towns, who were hoping for a first-ever competitive meeting between the two clubs at The Trico Stadium in front of a bumper crowd.
Earlier this season Sporting beat bottom of the table Redditch 7-1 and the Reds were keen to salvage some pride in this match.
As a result of the league-wide ruling, United’s trip to Kings Langley next Saturday will also not go ahead.
