Rehab sessions start soon for Redditch residents

THE latest round of free ESCAPE-pain rehab sessions for sufferers of arthritic pain are due to start next month across Redditch.

ESCAPE-pain is a group rehab program for people living with joint pain that uses education and coping strategies alongside exercise.

It helps you to understand your condition better, teaches you simple things you can help yourself with, and takes you through a progressive exercise program so that you can learn how to cope with the pain easier.

In Redditch, sessions start in February and will be held twice a week at the Abbey Stadium on Wednesdays from 2.30pm until 3.30pm, and on Fridays at the same time.

Redditch Borough Council’s Portfolio holder for Leisure, Coun Juliet Barker Smith, said: “Getting older and suffering from aches and pains that persistently make our lives difficult and limit our ability to go about our day-to-day activities, can really put a strain on people’s mental health.

“That’s why I am so pleased that we can put on these sessions which will hopefully enable sufferers of chronic pain to find enhanced coping strategies.”

Council leader, Coun Joe Baker, added ESCAPE-pain sessions were ‘amazing’ and had been successful in improving the daily lives of arthritic pain sufferers around the borough.
