THIS Saturday, July 1, at Webbs of Wychbold, crowds are expected to turn out to see fire crews from across the country demonstrate their lifesaving skills throughout the day at Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service’s (HWFRS) Rescue Challenge.

The event starts from 9am and has firefighting teams competing throughout the day until 4pm, in an array of challenges in a bid to win a place in the National United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Challenge 2017.

The teams of firefighters from across the country will take part in the Road Traffic Collision and Trauma Challenges; including HWFRS’s very own Jayne Collins and Simon Griffiths who recently won Best Medical team at Essex UKRO 2017 (June 24-25).

The Trauma Challenge involves a selection of trauma incidents where fire crews demonstrate how to quickly identify and treat a casualty’s injuries. Spectators can also watch how teams of firefighters safely extricate trapped casualties in the Road Traffic Collision Challenge scenario within a 20 minutes timeframe.

The day will also include children’s fair rides and emergency services vehicles to explore and more.

Chief Fire Officer Nathan Travis said: “This competition allows us to share best practice with other services from across the country and ensures we are able to provide the best possible service to our communities.”

“It also allows the public to get an insight into how hard fire crews work in short spaces of time to deal with emergencies such as road traffic collisions.”

Duncan Burns, from Webbs said: “Once more Webbs are delighted to support the fantastic, vital work of the Fire and Rescue Services. If you are in the area do come along on Saturday, the competition is great entertainment but also demonstrates the incredible speed, skill and expertise with which these dedicated crews serve our communities.”
