Residents call for drain to be fixed on Archer Road to stop flooding

Redditch Editorial 4th Oct, 2019   0

RESIDENTS are calling for a blocked drain on Archer Road to be fixed following flooding in the area.

One resident who lives there said: “It’s extremely worrying whenever there’s rain in Redditch because the water just overflows from the drain and onto our road.

“It’s dangerous because drivers try to avoid it and run the risk of hitting oncoming traffic.”

Last week, following a spell of torrential rain, water covered half of Archer Road and ran for about 30 feet (see our YouTube channel).

Anyone who walked past on nearby pavement ran the risk of getting soaked by passing cars.

John Truslove employee Isabelle Ellis, said: “The huge puddle on our road is an ongoing problem which Worcestershire County Council still has not done anything about, despite Archer Road being extremely busy.

“It’s not only causing more traffic within the town centre but also creates an issue in regards to the safety of those having to drive, walk, work and live in the area.”

Councillor Alan Amos, cabinet member with responsibility for Highways at Worcestershire County Council said: “Due to recent heavy rain there has been significant pressure on the county’s drain system.

“The gullies on Archer Road are due to be cleaned later in the autumn.

“If residents spot an issue, we would encourage them to report it on our website so that we can take appropriate action www.worcestershire.gov.uk/reportit.”
