RESIDENTS and visitors to the borough can help keep their local area clean, tidy and litter-free thanks to a brand new two-minute litter pick initiative.
The ‘two minute litter pick’ is a national scheme aiming to encourage residents to pick up litter quickly and easily, providing the equipment necessary to do this.
Over the next few weeks Redditch residents may notice litter picking boards going up in the town, such as outside shops, in shared community spaces, near schools and in parks.
The boards will be accompanied with two litter pickers and bags for people to use to spend two minutes picking up litter, putting it in the nearest litter bin and then returning the items for the next person to use.
Coun Brandon Clayton, whose portfolio covers Environmental Services, said: “Small acts like litter picking for two minutes can make a real difference to keeping our borough beautiful.
“Hopefully the new boards installed around our town will provide the tools to enable communities to keep on top of litter issues alongside the council’s regular cleansing rota.”
Redditch Borough Council is encouraging those who pick up litter to share their photo on social media using the hashtag #2minutelitterpick
