Residents invited to have a say on Redditch's Morton Stanley Festival

REDDITCH residents are invited to have their say on how they would like to see Morton Stanley Festival improved and refreshed at a meeting next week.

Redditch Borough Council’s Arts and Events Team are holding the meeting next Monday (March 13) in the Civic Suite at the Town Hall to discuss current arrangements, potential new ideas, fundraising and income generation opportunities.

From 6pm until 7.30pm, residents – as both performers and audience – can make suggestions to help make the event sustainable in the long term.

Coun Pat Witherspoon, whose portfolio covers Leisure Services, said: “Morton Stanley Festival isn’t your typical festival because it is so deeply rooted in the community and this is something we want to take advantage of.

“This is the people’s festival, whether you’re a performer, audience member or both and we want to make the most of this by inviting local people to have their say. Come to the meeting, share your thought and your ideas could become a reality.”

This year Morton Stanley Festival will be held on August 19 and 20 and Head of Leisure Services, John Godwin, said: “This is a unique opportunity for people of all ages, circumstances, hobbies and demographics, to mould a ‘new look’ Morton Stanley Festival.

“Sometimes it is necessary, particularly in these economic times, to have a fresh pair of eyes – with new, interesting and refreshing ideas – to create something great. Morton Stanley Festival gets more popular every year but we need you to help us to build a bright, exciting, creative, bold and beautiful future for it.”
